Trolltech Greenphone

Trolltech unveiled its latest addition to the cell phone market with Qtopia Greenphone, a Linux mobile development device open for unlimited software innovation. Offered as part of the Greenphone SDK, it makes Linux-based applications easier to build and faster to bring to market. Trolltech looks to introduce their "Greenphone" as part of several software development kits they'll be offering starting next month.

The Greenphone is a Quad-band GSM phone with GPRS capabilities and run on Linux kernel 2.4.19 software. The phone features Touch-screen and keypad UI and QVGA LCD color screen. It includes Bluetooth, 64MB of RAM, 128MB of ROM with a miniSD slot for expansion, and as mentioned a QVGA touchscreen sitting atop a 317MHz XScale. Interested parties best be on their toes, as the phone won't be offered alone, and SDK packages will be available in strictly limited quantities. The phone though is targeted squarely at Qtopia developers but one just cant rule out the fact that it could just as well be decent looking handset for the masses.

Panasonic VIERA 920P

The Panasonic VIERA 920P is a phone which would initially be available for the Japanese market. To be released for Softbank, the Panasonic VIERA 920P features a 3-inch wide VGA resolution and a simplistic rectangular design to maximize your viewing experience. It can be folded on its hinge either vertically or horizontally for optimal viewing. Measuring around 106 × 49 × 18 mm and weighing in a 135 grams, the VIERA 920P sports a 5.1 megapixel camera and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR. The model will be available in gold, white, black metal, light blue, and pink.

Casio W61CA EXILIM

Casio has unveiled its newest mobile phone for the Japanese KDDI network -- the W61CA waterproof EXILIM mobile phone. The W61CA is a waterproof clamshell type phone boasting a 5.1 megapixel camera using the Casio EXILIM technology. Being waterproof means it's designed for the people with active lifestyle in mind. And hence, it also features calorie consumption calculation as well as details of elapsed time and distance traveled. As an added bonus, the anime character, "Adelie penguin" is featured on the phone's standby screen. The Casio W61CA features a 2.7-inch QVGA LCD, a microSD card slot of up to 2GB, high-speed infrared connection, and Japanese-English dictionary among others. The Casio W61CA will come in Mode Green, Couture Gold, Esprit Yellow, and Robe White.

Fujitsu F705i Phone

The Fujitsu F705i tries to proves beyond a doubt that "waterproof" and "slim" is a good combination. It is the latest in its "FOMA i series" of waterproof phones headed to NTT DoCoMo conforming to IPX5 and IPX7 waterproof standards and measures a scrawny 13.7 mm. Waterproof up to 30 minutes at 1 meter depth, this phone features a 1.3-megapixel camera, Super Clear Voice and Super Clear Mic for in-call adjustment of volume to surrounding sounds, a 2.7-inch QVGA LCD screen, and Quick Zoom for increased visual accessibility. This cell phone also has another notable feature, which is a buzzer that can be set off in case of an emergency alerting people in the proximity.

The Fujitsu F705i will be available in three colors of snow white, dark blue, and light pink, although my Japanese doesn't permit me enough to say when.

Toshiba PORTEGE G500

Twinsim 66

The Twin 66 is a mobile phone that allows you to use two different SIM cards simultaneously by slotting two cards into the same phone! LG Shine Wood

It’s a new addition to the LG Shine lineup, a LG Shine with a stainless steel cover that is etched to look like wood. Really it looks pretty nice, but sadly it appears to only be available in Korea.
Other features include DMB-TV, a two-megapixel camera, MP3 player, Bluetooth (hopefully with A2DP support), and an Electronic Dictionary. That’s a pretty good list of features for a clamshell.

If you are on the LG Telecom network, you’ll be able to get one for about $520 real soon. The rest of us get to either import it for a slightly higher price, or do without entirely, oh well.

Motorola ROKR E8

Another new release form Motorola comes the ROKR E8, the phone has no physical keys and is completely smooth.

When the phone is powered off, the surface of ROKR E8 is smooth, and no visible keys. Once you power on the phone you basically get a virtual numbered keypad on the front surface. With one simple “press” of the virtual music key, the phone keypad disappears and control keys for the music player appear in its place.

The 2GB internal memory can store up to 1,500 songs and if you choose to use external memory this is expandable up to 4GB. With FM radio and a microUSB plug the phone is Linux-based and look really nice to boost.

Toshiba TS608

The Toshiba TS608 (also known as the TS30 in Asian markets) is an ultra-slim handset, exclusive to the Vodafone network. At just 9.9 mm thick, it's one of the slimmest phones around and it weighs just 81 grams.Even though it's an impressively slim and lightweight device, it's considerably thicker and heavier than the Samsung X820 which is 6.9 mm thick and weighs 66 grams, but the Toshiba TS608 is more compact than the 85 gram and 12mm thick Motorola SLVR.

It's a midrange phone in terms of features with a 1.3 megapixel camera, a 1.9" 176x220 pixel display in 262,000 colours and Bluetooth, plus the TS608 has an MP3 player, FM radio, microSD expandable memory (up to 512Mb), a web browser and email client.

One neat feature on the Toshiba TS608 is the top-mounted media controls, something we've only seen before on the BenQ-Siemens E61 - this means that you can control the TS608's multimedia while it's clipped to a belt.

The TS608 is quite a smart looking device with an understated brushed-metal look. It certainly seems to be more pleasing to the eye than the Samsung, and it has a much more usable keypad than the Motorola.Surprisingly, the Toshiba TS608 is only a dualband GSM 900/1800 device, rather than a triband or quadband device. Data connectivity is through GPRS only - the TS608 doesn't support EDGE or 3G data. Talktime is a maximum of 2.5 hours with 6 days standby time, which is a little on the short side.

Overall, the Toshiba TS608 is an attractive and competent handset. However, Toshiba have struggled to make much impact in Europe as their handsets tend to be very similar to Sharp's who also have an exclusive arrangement with Vodafone. The TS608 is a little different though, and it might meet with more success.

The Toshiba TS608 is already available in some Europe and Asia (where it by Vodafone as Toshiba TS30). Toshiba say that the TS608 will be available on other carriers in Europe, not just Vodafone - this should certainly give this smart looking handset a greater chance of success.

LG Prada Silver edition

LG announced it will launch a Silver edition of its much appreciated LG Prada (or LG KE850), after almost a year since the original black version came out (in March 2007). This is great news
for those who like LG Prada but wished from the beginning for another color. Considering the black Prada has been sold in more than 700,000 units until now, the South Korean producer hopes that, with the new edition, the handset will have at least the same success throughout 2008. LG Prada is in many ways similar to Apple's iPhone, but it's far from being a copycat, first of all because it was launched before the Apple handset.

As expected, the silver LG Prada has the same features as the black one, plus a new virtual QWERTY keyboard that provides an easier way to input text. Although many hoped the next Prada would come with 3G features, it doesn't. So the new Prada is actually the same tri-band GSM device with the same 3 inch TFT touchscreen with the 240 x 400 pixel resolution and Flash UI and the same 2 Megapixel camera with video recording (at 30 fps). Furthermore, we have the same dimensions (98.8 x 54 x 12 millimeters) and the same weight of 85 grams. Other nice specifications include GPRS, EDGE, WAP 2.0 / xHTML browser, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0, MP3 player and FM radio.

Grundig B700

Grundig is better known for their sound systems and radios, but now they’re aiming at the cellphone market. Grundig Mobile is launching the B700 Ultra Slim Communicator, a Blackberry style smartphone that runs on a Linux operating system. The design is very simple, but it also looks effective, with a QWERTY keyboard with SureType® technology, just like the Blackberry.

The B700 has features like a 2.4” QVGA display, a Push Email POP3 client, a 2 megapixels camera with 4x zoom and LED flash, a MP3 player and FM radio. The internal memory is only 100 MB, but you can expand this capacity to 1 GB using the microSD memory card slot. Vertu Mixed Metal Constellation

Vertu have released a new version of their highly successful Constellation model, the Constellation Mixed Metal edition. The Vertu Mixed Metal Constellation is made primarily of stainless steel but has gold features. The primary navigation button, side buttons, speaker vents, screws and the quarter turn locking device are all made of eighteen karat yellow gold. The phone uses a ceramic keypad and the back is wrapped in black leather. Another new version of the Constellation which is made of satin steel was also released and the back is wrapped in burgundy leather.

Spyker C8 Cell Phones

Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker have released a collection of cell phones as a form of further establishing their relatively new company (started in). The Spyker cell phones are named after the Spyker C8 and all the different versions, the collection comprises of the C8 Spyder model, the C8 Laviolette model and the C8 Laturbie model. The phones will be available later this year.

Stealth Luxury Phone from Mobiado

For those who didn't know, Mobiado is a luxury brand that "runs" in the mobile phone industry. Mobiado is a division of the Bonac Innovation Corp. founded in 2004. The company has launched its latest creation called Mobiado Stealth, which is a combination between Luminoso DNA and the features presented in the military stealth aircrafts.

The sharp edges, precise lines and clean surfaces of the Mobiado symbol, which is machine engraved, give the phone a unique and solid look. But, if you think that Mobiado jokes about
the military aircrafts, you are wrong. The aluminum case of the phone is made from the same metal that is used in building an aircraft. That makes the handset very resistant, and yet very light.

To add more to its luxurious look, the buttons are made from sapphire crystal and stainless steel, while the front screen and camera window are also incrustated with sapphire crystals.

The good news is that this phone comes unlocked and this means that it will work with any GSM network operator. Mobiado Stealth features WCDMA 2100 and tri-band GSM coverage on more than four continents (GSM/EDGE 900/1800/1900).

It comes equipped with a QVGA 262k colors and 320x240 pixel display, a 2.0 mega pixel photo camera that can also be used for recording clips. The phone has a total memory of 70MB (6MB internal, plus the 64MB memory card), but it can support microSD cards up to 2GB. One of the most innovative things of the handset is the surround sound through stereo speakers.

The push to talk over cellular (PoC) is also included, the Bluetooth technology as well, and we cannot forget the music player that supports MP3, MP4, eAAC+ and AAC music files. But, if you're tired of listening your music, you can use the Stereo FM Radio that is included.

The phone's battery can last in "Talk Mode GSM" for about 4 hours and in "Talk Mode WCDMA" for about 3.1 hours. The "Standby Mode" will drain the phone's battery after approximately 340 hours.

I’m sure it will appeal to some diehard Ferrari and MOTO fans, but otherwise it’s just plain old Motorola Z8 RIZR phone.
